OUR STORY

Gabor and I are vagabonds at heart. Our paths first connected when we were sating our own particular brand of wanderlust.

What started as an innocent conversation, ended up heralding the journey of a lifetime – Part of which we have already spent in search of our perfect spot under the sun. Only to discover the existence of our perfect paradise not in some far flung land, but in Gabor’s proverbial backyard, Hungary!

We chanced upon SargaHaz one wild summer afternoon. Hidden in the hills of the picturesque Kali Medence, this derelict yellow house (hence our name for it) nestled by its forest and vineyards had seen better days. For us, it was love at first sight and how!

Owner traced, property purchased, and house lovingly restored to what we imagine it would have been in its hey days, SargaHaz is now an ideal stay for individuals looking for some respite from maddening crowds. The 200m² house is sectioned off into three individual “lodgings” namely the PergolaHaz, Bunker, and Vinceller. Roughly 70m² each in area, complete with its own, living, dining, sleeping quarters, bath, and mini kitchen, each lodging has its own distinctive feel and character. We have lovingly furnished the lodgings with art collected during our travels, local flee market finds, and furniture restored or custom made to fit our occasional mad flights of fancy.

Being that we are also a functioning vineyard, we boast of one large cellar which is part of the main house, and an additional small cellar where we hold wine and cheese tastings. We produce a limited quantity of Olasz Reisling which is on offer for our guests to sample should they fancy a tipple.

Adjacent to the ”kis pince” Gabor has built an outdoor grill and brick oven where we on occasion host complementary barbeques and pizzas bakes for our guests.

We also have a freestanding summer kitchen “kiwi haz” where we create culinary heaven for our guests with ingredients plucked fresh from our kitchen garden, season permitting. On offer are also a variety of jams and syrups made by us from fruits and flowers growing on our property.
In addition to the comfortable and “at home” accommodations, what we can offer you is some peace and quiet, stunning sceneries of the surrounding hills, forests and rolling vineyards, nooks and crannies throughout our grounds where you can lounge about, or hide in should it tickle your fancy. We are also about a five kilometer drive away from the Balaton lake. So if you choose to take a dip on a particularly hot sunny afternoon, respite is but a stones’ throw away. More information on things to do you can find in our “surroundings” tab.

SargaHaz is a sincere result of our love for the house, land and above all, for each other. We welcome you to our earthly paradise. Come, sample a slice of it!
